Broken wheat upma/ Samba rava upma recipe

Broken wheat upma is healthy breakfast/dinner recipe.It is easy to make with less ingredients.It goes well with onion raita. You can add veggies of your choice to the upma and you can give as lunch box recipe to your kids.With pressure cooker it is easy to make rather than normal pan.

I have shown you step by step pictorial recipe.Now lets look into the recipe.


  • Broken wheat(samba rava)
  • Oil
  • Mustard seeds,channa dal
  • Curry leaves,coriander leaves
  • Green chilli,Red chilli
  • Ginger
  • Onion
  • Cashew nut
  • Salt

  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add mustard seeds and 1/2 tsp of channa dal
  2. Add 1 green chilli and 2 red chilli ,add chopped ginger and curry leaves
  3. Add 1 large sliced onion and 4- 5 cashew nut and saute well
  4. For 1 cup of rava add two cups of water
  5. Add salt as required and let the water boil(check salt level it should be little salty so that once it is cooked the salt level will be correct)
  6. Add 1 cup of broken wheat and mix well without any lumps
  7. Cover the cooker and cook for 1 whistle
  8. Open when the pressure is released and garnish with coriander leaves and give a good mix
  9. Broken wheat upma is ready serve it with onion raita

Cook for 1 whistle

Garnish with coriander
